Synrgy’s African American History Course Compliance information
How to proceed through the course (Important for saving time and reducing potential confusion)
Time Frame The course starting date is the date of enrollment, and shall end on a date 10 weeks later, at which time the course will no longer be available.
Sections The course is laid out in 3 sections which are clearly identified. Each section is roughly consistent with the layout of the 23 chapters in the textbook, “From Slavery to Freedom” 9th edition by John Hope Franklin and Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham. But the course also emphasizes specific topics within the section. Section 1: 5000 BCE to 1865: paces an emphasis on Africans before slavery in North America and the eventual establishment of Slavery in the USA. This section also covers the Civil War. Section 2 1865 to 1954: emphasis is on Reconstruction and Jim Crow. Section 3 1954 to the present: foci is on the Black Revolution (Civil Rights Movement) and Post Black Revolution from 1968 to the present
Quizzes Each of the 23 Chapters have ten (10) multiple choice questions that must be completed with 80% accuracy before moving to the next chapter. Students will have an opportunity to re-take a quiz twice.
Short Answer Questions To foster organizing thinking and concepts about African American History, each chapter has 2 to 4 short answer questions before the quizzes. Students are encouraged to read these questions and choose at least one to consider answering before reading each chapter, and take notes based on how you might answer the question as you proceed through the chapter. Submitting the short answers is not required, unless otherwise specified.
Videos Are generally toward the end of each section and at least 90% of each video must be viewed in order to advance.
Certificates Will automatically be delivered by email to each student who completes the course.
Credit and Clock Hours Students are encouraged to have your institution provide clock hours for the course. However, clock hours are available on the curriculum page via Seattle University for a price. Students may download the forms and connect directly with the Seattle University.
